TPLO Incision Care After Surgery
Track the recovery of your pet below.Below is an assortment of pictures displaying below average, average, and above average incisional healing. Here are a few things to remember while the incision is healing.
- You must prevent your pet from licking or chewing the incision site. Licking or chewing at the incision may cause premature removal of the sutures and/or incisional site infection, both of which may require a second procedure to repair. Unless otherwise instructed by your veterinary surgeon, an E-collar must be in place at all times when your pet is not under your immediate supervision.
- It is completely normal for swelling to develop around the ankle approximately 3-5 days following surgery on the leg the TPLO was performed on. This swelling can be massaged if it occurs. It will go down over the course of a few days.
